The World, in Columbia
Columbia International Day is a festival to celebrate the community's combined heritage with music, art and food. The main attraction is an umbrella exhibition featuring depictions of folk stories painted on umbrellas by local artists, 11 a.m.-dusk. On stage, musicians and dancers perform in a variety of styles: noon, Zumba Dance Explosion; 1 p.m., Portuguese and Brazilian pop by the Daniel Rego Trio; 2 p.m., the Pan-American Rhythm Project; 3 p.m. bluegrass by the Satyr Hill Band; 4:30 p.m., Russian folk by Samovar; 5:30 p.m., world beat and jazz by Kreation; 6:30 p.m., Latin hits by Rumba Club; and 9 p.m., rock and rhythm and blues by TMD and the Brass Solution. Kids can jump on a moon bounce, find their way through an inflatable maze, watch jugglers in action or get their faces painted. There will also be strolling entertainers, games and crafts. Teen Phantom
Thirty-three local actors, ages 13-21, perform in the Columbia Center for Theatrical Arts' original adaptation of "Phantom of the Opera" by artistic director Toby Orenstein with music and lyrics by Tom Alonso. The performance marks the culmination of this year's Teen Professional Theatre, a four-week intensive musical theater workshop that has won four consecutive Summer Schools in the Arts grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. 7:30 p.m. today-Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Shades of Green
Sharon Green's watercolor collection, "Patterns and Pigments," includes colorful, fanciful portraits and Kandinsky-esque abstracts. The Owings Mills artist served as president of the Baltimore Watercolor Society for six years and has been a working artist for 10.
