The Red Bulls took the lead in the fourth minute thanks to a blunder by the Earthquakes' defense. Denton, under pressure from Red Bulls midfielder Seth Stammler, tried to neutralize a long cross from the left wing by New York's Dave van den Bergh with a header back to goalkeeper Joe Cannon.
Denton's header was too strong, however, and drifted over Cannon's outstretched left hand for San Jose's second own goal of the season.
· FIRE 0, WIZARDS 0: Jon Busch made eight saves to help Chicago preserve a scoreless draw in Kansas City, Mo.
Busch and Wizards goalkeeper Kevin Hartman each have seven shutouts this season, tying them for the league lead with Nick Rimando of Real Salt Lake.
Hartman made five saves for Kansas City (5-5-7), which extended its unbeaten streak to six matches -- two wins and four draws. Chicago (7-5-5) has not lost in five matches, with two wins and three draws.
· CREW 2, RAPIDS 0: Steven Lenhart scored a goal in the first half and Jason Garey added another in the second to lead Columbus to its first win at Colorado in eight years.
Lenhart scored with a shot from inside the penalty box in the 21st minute, but was shown a red card just before the first half ended after committing a serious foul. Garey scored his first goal of the season in the 75th minute to put the game out of reach.
The last time Columbus (9-5-4) won in Colorado (6-9-3) was July 4, 1999.
