7:30 P.M., TAVERNA CRETEKOU, ALEXANDRIA

Alix: Phil probably got to the restaurant right at 7:30; I was a little bit early. I was at the table. I was a little anxious, but he looked inviting enough. He was tall; that was the first thing I noticed, which was great, because I'm tall. He's a good-looking, clean-cut guy, which is my type.

Phil: When I first saw Alix, [I thought,] "Wow, they actually did a really good job." I've always had a thing for tall women, but the biggest thing were her eyes. She has very intense blue eyes. As we're eating the appetizer, it was the initial discussion of, "How did you end up with Date Lab? What do you do?" It was a great atmosphere: a little open-air courtyard. It was a beautiful night.

Alix: [During dinner,] we talked about what we like to do, and we seemed to mesh on some of those fronts. He really doesn't do the whole club thing that often, and I don't, either. He likes a good dive bar, and I'm the same. He enjoys going to Nationals games and having a beer at a game, and I'm totally down for stuff like that.

Phil: She's a very relaxed person. The right amount of class, but not pretentious about it. We split a dessert; that was really good. We ended up hanging out until 10:15, 10:30, no gap in conversation.

Alix: Phil has a really warm personality, and he's very funny in a witty way. The one thing was that he's from Ashburn, which seems kind of far away to me.

Phil: It's only far for people who don't drive it a lot.

Alix: The place was almost empty, and the staff was cleaning up while we were still sitting. I had no idea what time it was, until I got outside and I looked at my phone and [saw that] we had been there three hours.

Phil: If it would have been a Friday or Saturday night, I definitely would have gone out further. I walked her to her car. I said something to the effect of, "I had a really good time tonight, would definitely like to hang out again." As we were standing [there], she gave me a hug, and she was telling me, "Hey, let me show you around Old Town sometime." And then she actually asked me if I wanted her number, and I was about to ask for it, so it worked out just fine.

Alix: I didn't ask for his number. I guess I was comfortable that we'd be in touch.

Phil: I'll definitely give her a call later this week. Hopefully, we can figure something out for this weekend or sometime. I'd rate the date between 4 and 4.5 [out of 5]. My expectations were very low. I'm very pleased it turned out very high.

Alix: I'd give it a 4. It's probably one of the better dates I've had, as far as, like, comfort levels. He was just really friendly, and it was obvious that I wanted to know about him and he wanted to know about me.

UPDATE: Alix and Phil talked a few times and set up another date. Then, Alix stopped returning messages. "I have no idea what happened," Phil says. The scoop: Alix says she met someone. "Bummer! Hope my not getting back in touch with him was not incredibly rude."
