LG (SEO: 066570), which is currently the fourth largest global handset vendor (probably), has signed a deal with Dolby which lets it put Dolby Mobile sound technology into its handsets. The idea is to improve the sound quality of multimedia files on the handsets, which isn't revolutionary but the improved quality should increase the number of people using the service. The features include:-- Mobile Surround, which delivers a realistic surround sound experience using headphones-- Sound Space Expander, which creates a wide, rich, and spacious soundstage experience especially suited to music playback-- Natural Bass, which adds powerful boost and bass extension-- High-Frequency Enhancer, which enhances music and other content by restoring high-frequency effects-- Graphic EQ, which helps tune the audio experience for different content types-- Sound Level Control, which helps level out audio for a more consistent playback volume-- Mono-to-Stereo Converter, which improves the playback experience of user-generated content

LG is touted as the first to include Dolby Mobile in its headsets, but a large part of the mobile technology is probably from Coding Technologies, which Dolby bought last November for $250 million in cash. Coding already had mobile customers, including Nokia ( NYSE: NOK) and SK Telecom.
