An interesting acquisition from Roll Call, the Capitol Hill newspaper owned by The Economist Group? it announced today the acquisition of Capitol Advantage, a provider of online political tools, for $43 million. Its services includ PACBuilder and Capwiz XC, which provides tools that allow constituents to reach their elected officials. The company also powers public-facing Congress.org, a news and information site on what Congress is up to. So Roll Call, a publication that's been around since 1955, now offers news and information, in addition to usable tools. Capital Advantage has been around since 1986, and originally started off doing printed Congressional directories. There's no word on revenues or anything like that. Now will rival publication The Hill follow suit? Release.
Of course, it's not surprising to see activity in this area, particularly during in an election with plenty of attention paid towards internet politics. In the last year and half, The Politico has come out of nowhere as a major force in online political news. Perhaps this would be a good time for Dick Morris to flip Vote.com.
