Scholarship Record Set by Class of 2008
Anne Arundel County Public School students from the Class of 2008 received more than $47.7 million in scholarship offers this spring, according to school officials. The total is the highest amount ever for a senior class. The previous record was $42.8 million offered to the Class of 2006. The numbers were culled from the senior survey, which also revealed a 10 percent increase in the number of seniors who said they plan to attend a four-year college or university. Of the 5,179 graduating seniors, 4,806, or 92.7 percent, completed the survey.
Chesapeake Eco-Triathlon Registration Opens
The 2008 Chesapeake Eco-Triathlon, set for Sept. 20, is open for registration. The race starts and ends at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center in Grasonville. It is open to anyone 12 and older. Teams of two, three or four persons are allowed to compete in the 10-mile mountain bike ride, 3-mile kayak trip and 4-mile trail run. Applicants can register online at http:/
County Health Office Offers Free Pregnancy Kits
The Anne Arundel County Department of Health and the Healthy Babies Coalition have put together a "Healthy Pregnancy Kit" for county women who are pregnant or trying to conceive. The free kit contains a resource directory, information on planning a pregnancy and other childbirth materials. The Department of Health also has a confidential helpline, the Family Tree Tot's Line, which offers free advice and information on County services for pregnant women, caregivers and parents. Welcome Picnic At Annapolis High School
Annapolis High School is hosting a picnic from 4 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 21 to welcome all incoming ninth graders, as well as new 10th, 11th and 12th graders. Students are invited to bring their families.
