PERSONNEL DEPT.

SS Cristian Guzmán, trying to recover from a left thumb injury, will rejoin the starting lineup today, ending an almost two-week absence. Another shortstop, Alberto González, will probably need a few more days to recover from his left glut injury; the team does not believe a trip to the disabled list will be necessary. . . . Just more than a week remains for the Nationals to sign first-round draft pick Aaron Crow, a right-handed pitcher from the University of Missouri.

QUOTABLE

"It's like night and day. You go from somewhere that's dead last and the energy is not there. You come here and as soon as I walked in I felt that energy."

Felipe López, who was signed by the Cardinals after being released by Washington, speaking to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch
