Aaron Boone never expected he would need this much time to recover from his left calf strain, an injury that's kept him on the disabled list since July 10. Originally, he thought he could return just days after the all-star break. But only now is Boone starting his rehab assignment. Today, Boone will play for the first time for the Nationals' affiliate in the Gulf Coast League. By tomorrow, he is expected to transfer to Class AAA Columbus.

QUOTABLE
" Yeah, they're two of the top pitchers in the league. Every team in the league has one or two of those guys, they have two of them, and you have to go out there and battle those guys. You can't just assume because a top pitcher is pitching that you're going to lose the game."
Manager Manny Acta, on Milwaukee's CC Sabathia and Ben Sheets
