Bush obliged, lightly tapping the small of her back with the back of his hand before scooting back. It was not clear whether he was happy with the resulting visual images, which quickly made their way to Web sites all over the world.

Bush's exploits even caught up with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, who mentioned them when the two sat down for a meeting on Sunday afternoon. "You also spent some time with the beach volleyball players," noted Wen, followed by a moment of grinning silence and chuckling by Bush.
