Teen Charged in SUV Theft

A District youth was charged as a juvenile with armed carjacking yesterday after he allegedly stole a sport-utility vehicle at gunpoint and crashed into several other cars while fleeing from D.C. police.

The 17-year-old suspect, who was not publicly identified because of his age, allegedly stole a Honda CR-V from its owner in the 100 block of Perry Street NE about 8 a.m. While trying to evade police, he got out of the SUV and fled into woods. Police said, the Honda was spotted near South Dakota Avenue and Gallatin Street NE by officers in a helicopter. Police arrested the teen minutes later. A motorist in a car that was hit was slightly injured, police said.
