Q: Do herbs and spices protect food from bad bugs?

A: Some do. Common spices known for their antibacterial properties include clove, cinnamon, thyme, oregano and rosemary.

But herbs and spices only perk up our lives if we use them, so here are some flavoring ideas from the IFIC for flavoring common foods:

Chicken: ginger, oregano, rosemary, sage, tarragon.

Fish: curry powder, dill, paprika.

Carrots or sweet potatoes: cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg.

Beef: onion, pepper, thyme, marjoram.

Green beans: dill, oregano, tarragon, thyme.

Bon appetit!
