Lawyer Pleads Guilty to Defrauding His Clients

A Woodbridge lawyer has pleaded guilty to defrauding his clients of more than $3.5 million.

Prosecutors say Stephen T. Conrad, 40, pleaded guilty yesterday to fraud charges in U.S. District Court in Alexandria.

Conrad worked on personal injury and workers' compensation cases. Court documents say that until December, he forged his clients' signatures and misappropriated funds from insurance companies against which claims were made.

Records show Conrad used the money to pay his mortgage and credit card bills and for travel.

He faces up to 20 years in prison, fines and restitution. Sentencing is set for Nov. 14.
