Fox was a key reserve in 2006 after signing with Washington as a free agent before the season. He started six games and was credited with 42 tackles, including 31 unassisted, and had one interception.

But Fox's role decreased last season because of the strong play of rookie safety LaRon Landry and the emergence of third-year safety Reed Doughty. Fox played mostly on special teams and had only two tackles on defense.

The Redskins also released defensive tackle Babatunde Oshinowo and defensive end Dorian Smith. Washington, which now has 77 players on the roster, must get down to 75 by 4 p.m. tomorrow and to 53 by 4 p.m. Saturday.

Landry May Sit

Landry has not played in the preseason after injuring his hamstring early in training camp and might sit out the final game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday at FedEx Field.

"He's still pushing," Coach Jim Zorn said. "We're just going to try to continue to progress. Hopefully, by the end of this week, we'll have a much better idea about him being full speed."

Kelly to Debut

Rookie wide receiver Malcolm Kelly (knee) is expected to make his pro debut this week. Defensive end Andre Carter (calf) and rookie cornerback Matteral Richardson (groin) will be reevaluated today. A team back specialist is scheduled to examine linebacker Matt Sinclair. Tight end Jason Goode (toe) and linebacker Alfred Fincher (hamstring) are out.
