Greenbelt Labor Day Fest

One of Maryland's largest Labor Day festivals will take place in Greenbelt. The four-day celebration, in its 54th year, will feature an art and photo show, a carnival, live music, food and a pageant. Preregistration is not required for the art and photo show; residents of Greenbelt and surrounding areas can call 301-474-2192 for details about art submissions and 301-474-5542 about photo submissions. Most events will take place at the Roosevelt Center, Crescent and Southway roads. Free van shuttles will be available at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Greenbelt Elementary School, Green Ridge House and the Greenbelt Armory. Friday, 9 a.m.-midnight. Festivities include the opening ceremonies, presentation of the outstanding citizen award, a table tennis tournament, a performance by the Greenbelt Concert Band, an adult kickball game and the David Craig memorial coed adult softball game. The carnival midway also opens, and the Miss Greenbelt Pageant gets underway.

Saturday,9 a.m.-11:30 p.m. The annual slow pitch tournament, which runs through Monday, will kick off. Also on tap are activities for children, such as games, a pet show, Shakespeare's "Comedy of Errors," singer Melissa Sites, storyteller Ian Rogers and magicians Speed & Thro; a horseshoe tournament, a home run derby and a talent show.

Sunday,9 a.m.-midnight. Featuring the Larry Noel 15K footrace and 3K fun run, the Miss Greenbelt Pageant, Bruce Swaim Jazz, Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure" and the a cappella group the Legendary Orioles.

Monday,9 a.m.-6 p.m. Festivities conclude with the softball finals, the Lions Club Bikes and Trikes contest, a parade, Luncheon on the Lawn at the Greenbelt Community Church (at Hillside and Crescent roads) and a performance by the Fabulous Hubcaps.

Line and Hand Dance

The '90s-themed Line and Hand Dance is the last in a series of dance events hosted by Prince George's Community College. It will include the electric slide, the macarena and the cupid shuffle. Guests are invited to wear 1990's or semiformal attire.

Adventures With Snoopy

The "Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace" exhibit features 40 scenes of the "Peanuts" character and his alter ego, the Flying Ace, in jaunts in the doghouse that transforms into a Sopwith Camel airplane. Scenes depicted include a confrontation with Snoopy's archenemy, the Red Baron.

The exhibit is organized by the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center. It is part of ExhibitUSA, a national touring division of the Mid-America Arts Alliance, a Missouri-based nonprofit. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, Saturday through Nov. 30. Walking in Water

County Hiking Spree

Starting Monday, the second annual fall hiking spree will offer opportunities to explore trails in Prince George's County or take a guided hike with a naturalist. A free kickoff celebration will be held noon-6 p.m. Sept. 6 at Patuxent Park, 16000 Croom Airport Rd., Upper Marlboro.

Family-Friendly Film
