Cornerback-kick returner Adam Jones was fully reinstated yesterday from his 17-month NFL suspension, which followed an accumulation of arrests and legal problems, and is clear to play for the Dallas Cowboys during the regular season.
"This is another step in the process," Jones said in a statement released by the team. "I am very grateful for this opportunity, and I understand my responsibilities to the Dallas Cowboys and the National Football League. Right now I just want to keep working hard so I can accomplish the goals that I have set for myself both on and off the field."
Terrell Owens and the freshly reinstated Jones watched from the sideline with the rest of the Dallas starters last night as the host Cowboys beat Minnesota, 16-10.
Jones has been arrested six times and involved in a dozen incidents requiring police intervention since the Titans drafted him in the first round in 2005. His last NFL game was Dec. 31, 2006. . . .
Dallas wide receiver Sam Hurd left the Cowboys' preseason finale after spraining his left ankle in the first quarter.
Hurd was hurt on the first drive of the game when he landed awkwardly after being tackled from behind by Vinny Ciurciu.
· TEXANS: For the first time since injuring his neck and spine Aug. 22, wide receiver Harry Williams has walked by himself.
Houston television station KRIV reported Williams walked by himself yesterday morning at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.
He suffered a cracked vertebrate and severe ligament damage in his neck during a preseason game against Dallas.
· BRONCOS: Wide receiver Brandon Marshall had his suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy reduced from three games to one.
