Members of the Maryland Army National Guard are deploying to Louisiana as the Gulf Coast prepares for Hurricane Gustav.
National Guard officials said yesterday that the initial request from Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal was for a CH-47 cargo helicopter and a crew of eight to deploy to Camp Beauregard in Louisiana. There, they will prepare to support search-and-rescue missions, movement of supplies and evacuees and sandbagging of any levee breaches. The soldiers are from B Company, 3-126th General Support Aviation Battalion. They returned in May from a year in Afghanistan.
