PERSONNEL DEPT.

When 2B-SS Anderson Hernández was acquired two weeks ago for Luis Ayala, he came to Washington with a reputation as a weak hitter. After all, at Class AAA New Orleans, where he had been playing, he had a .203 average. But since joining the Nationals, Hernández has reversed course. Through 26 at-bats, he's hitting .462, and in five of his six starts, he has had multi-hit games. To put this in perspective: Hernández has as many hits in six games with Washington as he had in 35 career games (2005-07) with the Mets.

QUOTABLE

"As disappointing as this year has been at times, I feel like it's starting to turn. There are a lot of good people in this room, and they're playing for something. And that's pretty cool."

-- Aaron Boone
