That Dallas finished with an NFC-best 13-3 regular season record last season meant little following a second-round playoff loss to the New York Giants. That disappointing end left wide receiver Terrell Owens despondent over criticism of quarterback Tony Romo, who was in the media cross hairs for jet-setting with Jessica Simpson the week before the playoff game.

Such is the burden that comes with the most important position on one of the NFL's most high-profile teams.

"I just try to let it roll off my back," Romo told reporters last season.

Romo set Cowboys records by passing for 4,211 yards and 36 touchdowns, but his stamp so far has been as much about not being able to win when it matters most. He is 0-2 in the postseason.

The offense has all the parts to remain among the league's most prolific. Beyond Romo and Owens are running back Marion Barber and tight end Jason Witten, both Pro Bowl selections. The starting five along the offensive line are back, too.

The defense is a blend of emerging young stars and proven veterans. Linebacker-defensive end DeMarcus Ware can be a terror, and linebacker Greg Ellis provides a fierce pass-rushing complement on the other side.

Thomas, an inside linebacker, was a regular in the Pro Bowl during his Miami days; cornerback Jones will provide depth in the secondary.
