Shooting Victim Identified as SE Man

Yesterday, D.C. police identified a man found shot to death early Saturday as Michael Henry, 25, of the 2200 block of Savannah Street SE.

Henry, whose body was found about 3 a.m. in the 3400 block of 22nd Street SE, was one of two men killed in the District early Saturday. Gemel L. Williams, 27, of the 300 block of Parkland Place SE was found dead about 1:20 a.m. in the 500 block of Newcomb Street SE, less than two miles from where Henry died.

The two killings, which do not appear to be linked, are under investigation, police said.

Crime-Fighting Program Kicks Off This Month

The D.C. police department and D.C. Office on Aging are seeking applicants for the "Senior Citizen Police Academy," a program that gives residents an inside look at the justice system and information about how to organize crime-fighting efforts in their communities.

The program begins Sept. 23 and runs through Oct. 30. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Additional information and registration forms are available on the police department's Web site, http://www.mpdc.dc.gov, by clicking "Programs & Resources."
