The Georgetown Flea Market, a venerable D.C. institution and a favorite of locals and tourists, is coming back to the District after a two-year hiatus.
On Sunday, the antiques and collectibles market returns to its former location at the Hardy Middle School parking lot on Wisconsin Avenue NW between S and T streets. The flea relocated to the parking lot at the Court House Metro in Arlington in 2006 when the school began undergoing extensive renovations, which have been completed.
Fans of the Arlington market need not despair: It will remain, says Michael Sussman, who founded the Georgetown market in 1973.
Fifty dealers (down from 80) will return to Georgetown to sell their antique and vintage wares, including furniture, rugs, art books, maps, linens, clothing, china and flatware.
"Every great city has a great flea market," Sussman says, "and this is ours."
The market is open Sundays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weather permitting). For additional information, call 202-775-FLEA or visit http://www.georgetownfleamarket.com.
