Volunteer Firefighter Convention in Beltsville
The Beltsville Volunteer Fire Department will host the 86th annual convention of the Prince George's County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association Sept. 13-20.
The event, at the Beltsville firehouse at 4911 Prince George's Ave., also serves as the 78th annual convention for the Ladies Auxiliary to the Prince George's County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association.

Community College Plans Bluebird Blues Festival
Prince George's Community College will host the 16th annual Bluebird Blues Festival from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 28, in front of Novak Field House and in the Hallam Theatre of the Queen Anne Fine Arts building, on the Largo campus.
Admission is free.
"This year, the festival will kick off a week of inaugural activities for President Charlene M. Dukes," Andristine Robinson, chairman of the Bluebird Blues Festival Committee, said in a statement. "We have an outstanding lineup of performers," she said.
Headliner Bettye LaVette will appear on the main stage in front of Novak Field House. Other performers on the main stage will include alumni Michael James "Blues" Baker and the Blue Smoke Blues Band, Memphis Gold and the Holmes Brothers.
A blues workshop, a crowd favorite, will introduce visitors to a history of the blues, led by Barry Pearson, in the Queen Anne Fine Arts building. Michael Baytop, Rick Franklin and Larry Johnson are among the musicians to be featured during the workshop.
The festival is sponsored by the college, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and the Prince George's county executive's office. Financial Seminars Offered by GMAC
GMAC Financial Services is offering free financial seminars for community-based organizations.
Programs focusing on four topics are available: banking and credit, auto financing, mortgages and insurance. Each seminar lasts about an hour, depending on audience size and questions asked.
Seminars must be scheduled at least 30 days in advance, and the organization must guarantee an audience of at least 30. For information about scheduling seminars, e-mail smartedge.bygmac@gmacfs.com.
Participants receive a comprehensive manual on each of the four subject areas. Each person attending also receives a coded ticket to an online raffle of a 2009 Pontiac G6 or 2009 Chevy Cobalt.
