QUOTABLE
"I was thinking that I broke my bone, maybe [tore] my ligaments. I felt my leg sleeping. When I tried to put my feet on the ground, I realized I couldn't stand up."
C Jesús Flores, describing the feeling of his injury

Roger Bernadina batted .323 this year for Class AA Harrisburg. He batted .351 for Class AAA Columbus. But because of what happened for the two weeks in between those stops -- when he batted .125 with the Nationals in 40 at-bats -- questions linger about Bernadina's offense. He was sent back to the minors with orders to shorten his swing. And yesterday, Washington gave Bernadina his first start since his call-up, placing him in left field to give Willie Harris a rest. Bernadina, who went 1 for 4 with a run and two strikeouts, won't get many looks, Manager Manny Acta said, only because of Harris's success this year and the need to develop Lastings Milledge and Elijah Dukes.
