Opposed gun control and applauded the U.S. Supreme Court's striking down of the District's ban on handguns. A life member of the National Rifle Association.
Immigration

Science
Called for teaching creationism alongside evolution in public schools. Opposed to explicit sex-education programs in schools, and to stem cell research.
Taxes
Cut Wasilla property taxes but spent more on infrastructure projects, and the cost of running the growing town rose by about half. Raised the local sales tax by 0.5 percent to help pay for an indoor ice rink and sports complex.
Increased state taxes on oil production. Approved a $1,200 "energy rebate" to each Alaskan from a budget surplus. Proposed reducing or eliminating business license fees and the tire tax.
