Maryland 4A runner-up Arundel handed Broadneck two of its three losses in 2007, including a 49-20 thumping in the East Region final that remains a sour memory for the Bruins. "Arundel's the top dog until somebody knocks them off," Broadneck Coach Jeff Herrick said. Quarterback play will be key, with Wildcats junior QB Billy Cosh making his first varsity start since taking over after the departure of all-county Nick Elko.

PRIVATE SCHOOLS

Georgetown Prep at Paul VI Catholic

Tonight, 7

This intriguing nonleague opener pairs teams hoping to improve on last season, when Prep was 3-7 and Paul VI was 1-9. The Panthers are experienced (18 starters return), led by junior RB Idreis Augustus, a 1,000-yard rusher and all-WCAC first-team selection in 2007.

VIRGINIA AAA NONDISTRICT

Robinson at No. 4 Stone Bridge

Tonight, 7:30

In its only loss last season, Stone Bridge fell to Robinson, 41-14, giving up 34 points in the second half. The loss inspired the Bulldogs, who scored 218 points in their next five games and went on to win the Virginia AAA Division 5 state title. Robinson finished 6-6. This year, both teams are coming off impressive opening wins -- Robinson over Lake Braddock (26-7), Stone Bridge over West Springfield (42-28).
