Among the many things we learned during the course of voting this week, the most important is obvious: If you take Tatum Bell's job, make sure to lock up your valuables. The second-most important is that the Potomac River Fantasy Challenge is more popular than ever. Maybe it's because Virginia won the inaugural season title and Maryland/D.C. won last season's championship, so bragging rights are back on the line. Or maybe it's because we included Westfield place kicker A.V. Lawless, who inspired legions of voters with the coolest last name we've heard since Shaft. Admit it, A.V. Lawless sounds like a bad mother (editor's note: Shut your mouth). We're just talking about Lawless. Anyway, on to the Week 1 lineups:
Maryland/D.C.
QB Mike Thomas, Eleanor Roosevelt
Tomorrow at DuVal
Fourth-year starter can score with arm, legs.
RB Idreis Augustus, Paul VI Catholic
Tonight vs. Georgetown Prep
Rushed for more than 1,000 yards last season.
RB Khalek Shepherd, Gwynn Park
Tomorrow vs. Dunbar (Balt.)
Scored 14 touchdowns as a sophomore.
WR Leonard Cole, Dunbar
Tonight vs. Good Counsel
