The Giants came out with a nearly perfect opening drive: 11 plays, 84 yards and a one- yard Eli Manning touchdown scamper, during which he eluded linebacker Rocky McIntosh in the open field. The Redskins' first attempt with the ball was as bad as the Giants' was good: a sack and a Stephon Heyer false start in between two short runs, followed by a disappointing 34-yard punt from rookie Durant Brooks. The Giants converted their great field position into a 24-yard John Carney field goal that concluded a nine-play, 45-yard drive. After a false start on their next possession, the Redskins were saved from a three-and-out only when Jerome McDougle ran into the punter, drawing a personal foul. Washington managed two runs for four yards, an incomplete pass and another punt.
