Minutes and seconds the Redskins needed to get their first first down of the season that didn't come via penalty. Washington was given a first down in the first quarter when DE Jerome McDougle was called for roughing P Durant Brooks.

Big Block

Redskins RB Clinton Portis leveled Giants DE Mathias Kiwanuka during the third quarter. On third down and five, Portis stayed in the backfield to help protect QB Jason Campbell and delivered a crushing chip block that sent Kiwanuka falling backward to the turf.

Gibbs on the Podium

Former Redskins coach Joe Gibbs spoke at the Republican National Convention during last night's game. He finished his remarks at approximately 8:55 p.m., which was early in the third quarter. Gibbs's second stint with the Redskins ended after last season when he resigned with one year left on his five-year contract.
