Garey Propels Crew Past Revolution

Jason Garey scored twice and Guillermo Barros Schelotto had a goal and two assists to lead the Columbus Crew to a 4-0 win over the visiting New England Revolution last night.

Andy Iro also scored for the Crew (13-6-4), which leads the Eastern Conference with the best record in MLS.

New England (11-7-5) trails the Crew by five points.

Schelotto opend the scoring in the 40th minute, beating Revolution midfielder Chris Tierney to reach a stray ball near the New England penalty spot and sending a shot back across his body to beat goalkeeper Matt Reis.

Five minutes later, Schelotto sent a bending free kick across the pitch that Iro headed into the back of the net. . . .

Daniel Paladini and Jonathan Bornstein scored to rally Chivas USA to a 3-1 victory over host Toronto FC.

Ante Razov had a goal and two assists for Chivas USA (8-9-6), which was missing nine players -- two to international play, five to injuries and two to yellow cards.

Tyler Rosenlund scored for Toronto (7-11-5), which was also missing nine regulars -- including eight to international duty -- and has just one win in its past 10 games. . . .

Stephen King scored in the 36th minute to lift host Chicago to a 1-0 win over New York.

Chicago goalkeeper Jon Busch earned his 10th shutout.

The Fire (11-7-5) moved into a tie with New England for second place in the East. . . .

Bryan Jordan scored his first MLS goal, and Edson Buddle added his 13th of the year as host Los Angeles (6-9-8) played to a 2-2 tie with Real Salt Lake (8-8-7).

World Cup Qualifying

Mexico earned a 3-0 win over Jamaica in Mexico City to take the lead in Group B of CONCACAF regional qualifying play for the 2010 World Cup.

Andres Guardado, who plays for Spain's Deportivo La Coruna, scored two minutes into the match, converting a free kick on a penalty outside the area.

Twenty minutes later, Fernando Arce tipped in a rebound off a shot by Carlos Vela. . . .

In Montreal, Ramon Nunez scored twice early in the second half to lead Honduras to a 2-1 victory over Canada. . . .

Spain beat Bosnia-Herzegovina, 1-0, on David Villa's 58th-minute strike to extend its unbeaten run to 24 games. . . .

Paraguay held host Argentina to a 1-1 tie to keep its lead in South American qualifying for the World Cup. . . .

France was upset by host Austria, 3-1, in its opening World Cup qualifier. . . .

Antonio Di Natale scored two goals to give visiting Italy a 2-1 win over Cyprus in its opening qualifying match. . . .

In Barcelona, substitute Joe Cole scored two second-half goals to give England an uninspiring 2-0 victory over Andorra in qualifying.
