Initially slowed in camp because of a hamstring injury, Kelly underwent arthroscopic surgery Aug. 4 on his left knee. Kelly was supposed to make his pro debut Aug. 28 in Washington's final preseason game, but his knee swelled in pregame warmups.
"That was a big disappointment," Kelly said. "You want to be out there, you want to show what you can do, but the knee . . . it just wasn't there."
Defensive tackle Kedric Golston suffered a bruised knee in the loss to the Giants, which Zorn mentioned last week. Yesterday, Golston said he also "banged up" his right elbow. "I'll be all right," Golston said, and he practiced without limitations. . . .
Linebacker Khary Campbell sat out practice because of a leg injury. "He's going to be fine, but it was hindering his mobility," Zorn said. "It wasn't necessary to get him out today. Hopefully, we'll get him out on Wednesday" when practice resumes. . . .
Alex Buzbee (Georgetown), the second-year defensive end who tore his Achilles' tendon on the first day of camp in a mundane, non-contact drill, had his cast removed a week ago. He is wearing a walking boot, which he figured he will have on for at least another month. He is expected to miss at least nine months.
