A weekly playlist for the listener with a one-track mind.
This week: Special all-remix edition!
MIA featuring 50 Cent: "Paper Planes" (Remix) What's that you say? You can't possibly bear another remix of that regrettably ubiquitous song you once enjoyed? Would it change your mind to know that this one is by Fiddy, who helpfully inserted an unnecessary rap that's partly about himself? No? Okay, then.
EPMD: "Run It" (Duke Dumont Remix) The iconic New York hip-hop duo opened up their new single -- from their first disc since 1999 -- to a host of remix artists. This is one of those inspired redos that make the originals seem more exotic than they actually are.
Big Gipp: "Hot" (Klever Remix) A presumably new track from the sometime Goodie Mob/Ali & Gipp rapper gets aggressively reconfigured by ATL electro/house whiz Klever.
Metallica: "Enter Sandman" (Herve Refix) Metallica has gotten distressingly little attention from remixers over the years. Whether this is due to the remix-unfriendliness of its songs or the band's general air of unpleasantness, well, who's to say?
Talking Heads: "Born Under Punches" (Dobie's Tab 2 Transient Re-edit) The Talking Heads also get surprisingly little remix love, but probably for different reasons. Here, British producer Dobie strips down one of the best tracks from the classic "Remain in Light" but leaves its essential jungle-funk weirdness unharmed.
