16 Injured as Car Hits Metrobus in District

Sixteen people reported injuries this morning after a car slammed into a Metrobus in Southeast Washington, officials said.
Metro officials said the accident took place at 11:50 a.m. when the driver of the car went through a red light and struck the bus at 16th and U streets SE. Two people were in the car, and a driver and 13 passengers were on the bus, officials said.
The injured were complaining of back and neck pain, authorities said. So far, none of the injuries has been deemed serious enough to require transportation to hospital, according to the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department.
Metro officials said the bus was on the B2 route and headed north on 16th when hit by the car, which they said was traveling east on U Street at a high rate of speed.
