We love fall, all of it: cerulean skies, crisp air, changing leaves, that whole first-day-of-school-let's-start-afresh vibe. But if we're being honest, we'd have to admit that the main reason we love fall is . . . the clothes. Sure, a sweet summer shift is sleek and easy. But folks, fall was created for fashion: funky boots, cashmere sweaters, pencil skirts, leather jackets.

We're particularly fond of leather jackets, because (a) they're the perfect in-between coverup; (b) they last forever; and most important (c) they look really, really cool, especially when they get a little beat up. We're counting the days until the temps drop just enough so that we won't look like a total fashion fool rocking them in 90-degree temps. (Next week, maybe? Please?)

This season, you can find cropped little numbers with jeweled necklines that look like something Leanne on "Project Runway" would make; mod moto jackets in faux leather for the veganistas, padded and pumped up for rock chick chic. Try straying from classic black and play with color, from rich browns to jade greens to the "it" color of '08 -- gray. A good jacket is versatile, easily tossed over a tee and jeans (skinny, high-waisted, boyfriend, take your pick) as it is over a floaty floral dress or a pair of Katharine Hepburn trousers.

But please, whatever you do, don't do leather-on-leather. If we spot you trolling the streets with a bomber jacket and those Mary-Kate Olsen leatherized leggings, we're calling you out.
