AUDIT OF VOTES

Discrepancies Found

The D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics has been unable to reconcile discrepancies in two of the four precincts chosen randomly for audit as part of a review of the Sept. 9 primary.

The discrepancies in precincts 13 and 21 were minor compared with the thousands of votes that initially skewed results, first attributed to a defective computer memory cartridge and then to possible human error.

Employees of the board counted Thursday and yesterday. A spokesman said similar discrepancies have been found in other audits around the country.

FARRAGUT NORTH METRO

Nearby Streets Closed

Two incidents at the Farragut North Station on the Red Line prompted authorities to close Connecticut Avenue and K Street NW outside the station, authorities said. Train service was not affected, a Metro spokesman said.

Burning debris was reported in a room used by Metro employees about 10 p.m. Later, a suspicious package was being investigated.
