PERSONNEL DEPT.

Angels: OF Juan Rivera (strained right hip flexor) and IF Howie Kendrick (strained left hamstring) were able to run before yesterday's game and are closer to returning to action.

Orioles: RHP Jeremy Guthrie, on the disabled list with a shoulder injury, threw a bullpen session and said he felt good. He hopes to start a game in Tuesday's doubleheader against Tampa Bay. . . . RHP Dennis Sarfate is scheduled for shoulder surgery Thursday.

Red Sox: OF J.D. Drew suffered back spasms while swinging Friday and remains unable to play. Drew, who has been sidelined since Aug. 17, will be reevaluated when Boston returns home tomorrow.

Yankees: SS Derek Jeter left yesterday's game against Baltimore after getting hit on the hand by a pitch in the ninth. X-rays were negative and he said he'll play in tonight's final game at Yankee Stadium.
