Right biceps tendinitis has kept reliever Marco Estrada from appearing since Sept. 9, but Manager Manny Acta said yesterday that the rookie is recovered and available. Estrada has struggled since his Aug. 19 promotion to the big leagues, allowing nine earned runs and 12 hits in 9 1/3 innings. Though the team has used this stint to test Estrada as a reliever, Washington likely will use the 25-year-old in the minors next season as a starter. "He just needs to pitch more" before he's ready for the big leagues, Acta said.

Quotable
"Every team in the major leagues has a chance to beat the other club. Maybe they had the same record when they got over here, but they still have some good players over there and good pitchers."
Acta, on the feeling of getting swept by San Diego
