1st District Police Host Open House on Saturday

Rockville's 1st District Police Station will host an open house from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, featuring tours, child fingerprinting and family-friendly activities.
Demonstrations will be given by a Special Weapons and Tactics team, a Maryland National Capital Park Police horse-mounted officer, officers with canine partners, motorcycle officers, and county fire and rescue personnel. A state police helicopter and county police bus will be available for viewing, and a clown and moon bounce will be available for children.

New Executive Director At Sandy Spring Museum
Sharon Ann Holt became executive director of the Sandy Spring Museum this month.
Holt, who holds a doctorate in American history from the University of Pennsylvania, has 15 years of experience as a professional historian in the region.
For the past five years, she has been director of programs for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Center for the Humanities at Rutgers University at Camden, N.J. In that role, she worked closely with communities to preserve historic places, nurture interpretation and build civic commitment, the museum said in a statement.
Holt is the author of two books, one on post-Civil War African American landholding and a forthcoming volume on the future of public history. She is married to Michael Zuckerman, professor of history at the University of Pennsylvania, and has two daughters and three stepchildren.
Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Event on Oct. 4
The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad will host Rescue Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 4 to teach families about fire and rescue practices. The event will include free fire and rescue activities, firetrucks on display, station tours, live demonstrations of emergency medical, rescue and firefighting equipment, free children's firefighter hats, a free moon bounce and a visit from a medical emergency helicopter.

Commission Plans Forum On Charter Provisions
The Montgomery County Charter Review Commission will have a public forum from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 6 to discuss whether changes should be made to the county charter.
