Because of Thursday's rainout, 21-year-old rookie Shairon Martis lost the chance to make his final start of the season. His September audition, then, included four starts; he finished 1-3 with a 5.89 ERA, but half of his 12 earned runs came in one start. He impressed management with his composure, but the team will prefer to have Martis back in the minor leagues next year, especially because fellow youngsters Collin Balester and Jordan Zimmermann figure to pitch in the majors while still developing. Said Manager Manny Acta: "We are going to be cautious of having so many of those guys at one point."

"Two playoff spots are up for grabs, and how we play this series will definitely affect the outcome of it."
