"Since day one, that's been the goal: to produce very well on offense," Taylor said. "We were all just clicking on the same page today."

When the Hokies held a 28-10 lead in the second half, a win seemed inevitable. But Nebraska rallied, and Virginia Tech suddenly was forced to hold a 28-23 lead.

Beamer knew after the game there is still work to be done. The Hokies kicked four field goals, which were red-zone opportunities that did not result in touchdowns. They allowed the Cornhuskers back into the game, even when leading by a significant margin.

Hokies Note: Starting rover Davon Morgan tore the ACL in his right knee and will miss the rest of the season, the team announced after the game. Surgery is pending.
