A weekly playlist for the listener with a one-track mind.
David Cook: "Light On" It's true what they say: David Cook really is the new Daughtry, minus the imperiousness and the leather pants. Incredibly, this song was co-written by Chris Cornell, whose rapid descent into irrelevancy is now complete.
Little Boots: "Meddle" (Designer Drugs '80s Coke Jam remix) The increasingly amazing duo Designer Drugs have their way with British sensation Little Boots, who is either the most innovative electro-disco star of the past five years or the Lady Miss Kier of the Oughts.
Patrick Stump: "Love Lockdown" We're not too proud to say it: Not only does the Fall Out Boy frontman totally not embarrass himself on this cover of the already ubiquitous Kanye West track, but his version actually improves upon the original.
Kid Sister featuring David Banner: "Family Reunion" The Chicago rapper tries her hand at singing on this Diplo-produced track, an early-'80s-nostalgia-inducing tale of summer barbecues that comes three weeks too late.
Eddie Vedder: "All the Way" (live) Vedder, a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, wrote this ode to the exercise in futility that is the Cubs' post-season and performed it live last month. It's meant to be lighthearted, but Vedder trying to sound happy is a painful thing, and he winds up sounding unnatural and kind of upset, like Sean Penn when he tries to do comedy. It's still a sweet song, though.
