Voter Registration Deadline Is Late Monday

D.C. residents will have until the last minute Monday to register to vote in the Nov. 4 general election.

The D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics will stay open until midnight to accommodate potential voters, who will have until 11:59 p.m. to sign up in person.

Voters can register by mail by picking up applications at libraries and police and fire stations. The applications must be postmarked by Monday. Online registration is also available at http://www.dcboee.org but must be followed by a signed form postmarked by Monday.

ADAMS MORGAN

Gunman in Restaurant Shootings Identified

D.C. police have released the name of a gunman who opened fire Sunday night in a popular Adams Morgan restaurant, killing himself and another patron.

Tessaye Yemane, 50, pulled out a gun during an argument with the other man at the Meskerem Ethiopian Restaurant in the 2400 block of 18th Street NW. Authorities said Yemane shot the man, 50, and then turned the gun on himself.

D.C. Council member Jim Graham (D-Ward 1) issued a statement saying that the two men had known each other for years. Police did not reveal the nature of the argument, which occurred about 11:10 p.m.
