Redskins cornerback Byron Westbrook said he would be surprised if his brother Brian played for Philadelphia this weekend. Byron Westbrook said he speaks nearly every day to his brother, whose presence dramatically affects the productivity of the Eagles' offense.
"I don't think he'll play," Byron Westbrook said. "The ankle injury is more serious than what the Eagles put out. You know how Andy Reid is about injuries and giving out information. Just watching him on the sidelines after he turned his ankle [against Pittsburgh two weeks ago], it didn't look good.
"He's a warrior, and it's an NFC East game, and he wants to play, but it's also early in the season, and it's not a playoff game. If he goes out and plays at 75 percent, you could end up making it a lot worse. He would want to get to 90 percent to really be able to play."
Westbrook said he and his big brother, who is getting treatment but is unable to practice, last talked on Sunday.
As he usually does when the Redskins are preparing to face the Eagles, Byron Westbrook will continue to act as his brother on the scout team all week. The Redskins will prepare in case Brian Westbrook plays.
"We still have to prepare for him regardless," Byron Westbrook said. "And if he can't play, then we'll just be over-prepared."
Springs Set to Play
Cornerback Shawn Springs, who strained his calf in the game against Dallas, said he feels really good and expects to play Sunday.
"I'm not missing an NFC East game," said Springs, who did not practice yesterday.
Carlos Rogers probably will draw coverage against 6-foot rookie sensation DeSean Jackson, who has been the Eagles' most productive wide receiver this season. Springs isn't as suited to covering smaller, quicker wide receivers.
Springs often has covered Eagles wideout Reggie Brown in previous matchups. . . .
Right tackle Stephon Heyer, who has a separated left shoulder that prevented him from starting against Dallas, said he was not sure if he would be able to play against the Eagles. Heyer was replaced on offense by veteran Jon Jansen and appeared on special teams, where he slightly re-injured his shoulder.
"I had a little minor setback," said Heyer, who missed practice yesterday. "My shoulder still hurts a little bit. As far as this week, I don't know."
