Teenager Is Given 8-Year Sentence in 2 Armed Robberies
A Northeast Washington teenager was sentenced yesterday to eight years in prison for teaming up with another youth in two armed robberies in June.
Aaron Crutchfield, 18, pleaded guilty to the attacks, which occurred June 4. Prosecutors said that he and Douglas Chambers, 16, robbed three men at 4 a.m. at a farmers market in the 1300 block of Fifth Street NE, then stole cash and a vehicle from a woman outside a fast-food restaurant in the 500 block of Morse Street NE.
Chambers, also of Northeast, was prosecuted as an adult and, like Crutchfield, pleaded guilty in D.C. Superior Court to armed robbery charges. Chambers is to be sentenced Nov. 24.
Man, 54, Is Convicted in Fatal Stabbing From Last Year
A Southeast Washington man was convicted yesterday of fatally stabbing a man he caught with his live-in girlfriend, prosecutors said.
Preston Pearson, 54, came home early from his job at St. Elizabeths Hospital on Oct. 25 and found David Whicker, 53, with his girlfriend in the apartment in the 4000 block of Fourth Street SE. Prosecutors said that Whicker left the apartment but that Pearson followed him into a hallway, where a scuffle ensued. Pearson stabbed Wilson in the chest, then dragged him outside, prosecutors said.
Pearson was convicted of manslaughter while armed and faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced Dec. 11 in D.C. Superior Court.

Weekend Track Work to Cause Delays on Part of Blue Line
Metro riders will face delays this weekend on a stretch of the Blue Line in the District and Prince George's County, officials said.
Track work is scheduled between the Stadium-Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant stations, and riders should be prepared to add 20 minutes to their travel times. The work will occur from 10 p.m. today to 3 a.m. Sunday, officials said.
