ASHEVILLE, N.C., Oct. 5 -- Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (Del.), the Democratic vice presidential nominee, will spend Monday and Tuesday off the campaign trail after the death of his mother-in law, Bonny Jean Jacobs, 78.
Jacobs, the mother of Biden's wife, Jill, died Sunday after a long illness, Biden spokesman David Wade said. She will be buried Tuesday in Abington, Pa., near where she lived in Willow Grove, Pa.
Biden had already canceled campaign events over the weekend, including an address Saturday to the Human Rights Campaign in Washington and stops Sunday in Richmond and Roanoke, upon learning that Jacobs's condition had suddenly declined.
Appearances in New Hampshire on Monday and in Florida on Tuesday have been canceled. Wade said Biden will resume campaigning Wednesday in Florida.
