After 29 years, Fan Fair in upper Georgetown is closing. All in-stock fans and lamps are discounted up to 70 percent. That includes ceiling fans, table lamps, floor lamps and hanging light fixtures from such manufacturers as Hunter and Casablanca. "Unique items are the most marked-off," says owner Charlie Betts, including "oddball, quirky Medusa floor lamps." The liquidation sale, which started Saturday, continues until the store closes Nov. 8. The store is at 2233 Wisconsin Ave. NW. For more information, call 202-342-6292.

On Saturday, the Washington Design Center opens its doors to the public for a one-day sample sale. Twelve of the center's 60-plus showrooms are participating in the biannual sale (the other sale is in the spring). Furniture, carpets, lighting fixtures and accessories are discounted up to 75 percent, and showroom participants include AmericanEye, Robert Allen/Beacon Hill, Ebanista and Galleria Carpets & Rugs. The design center is at 300 D St. SW. For more information, visit http://www.dcdesigncenter.com or call 202-646-6100.
