New Food Network Chef To Appear at Rockvile Library

Montgomery County Public Libraries will host chef, author and upcoming reality TV personality Jeff Henderson tomorrow. A former drug offender, Henderson used his love of cooking to turn his life around by working his way from incarceration to executive chef jobs at Cafe Bellagio and Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. In his Food Network show, "The Chef Jeff Project," Henderson will put six at-risk youths to work in his catering company. The show premieres Sunday.

The library event will feature a screening of the show and a signing of Henderson's new book, "Chef Jeff Cooks: In the Kitchen with America's New Inspirational Culinary Star." Proceeds will benefit disadvantaged youths seeking culinary careers and Teen Spot, a project to create library spaces and recreational activities for youths.

Music Showcase for Women Has Final Concert on Saturday

The region's "Can a Sista Rock a Mic?" touring music and arts festival will have its final concert in Silver Spring from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday. The block party will include art displays, food vendors and performances by soul singer Angela Johnson, rhythm and blues singer Emily King, hip-hop singer Emoni Fela, singer-songwriter Josephine Silla, reggae/hip-hop group Nola Darling, spoken-word performer Dehejia Maat, electronica singer Yoko K., jazz/soul singer Deborah Bond and soul singers Ne'a Posey and Teisha Marie. Vendor sales will benefit Raising Expectations, a nonprofit organization that creates artistic opportunities for young people.

Bethesda Becomes Busytown In Imagination Stage Musical

Imagination Stage will perform a musical adaptation of Richard Scarry's book "What Do People Do All Day?" through Nov. 2. Intended for children 2 and older, the 70-minute play looks at a busy day in the lives of Scarry's Busytown characters, including Huckle Cat, Lowly Worm, Able Charlie Baker, Captain Salty, Stitches the Tailor, Jason the Mason and Doctor Lion.

The show runs at 10:30 a.m. today, Oct. 11 and 25, and 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, except Oct. 18, at Imagination Stage's Annette M. and Theodore N.
