Anthony J. SciaccaTelephone Company Employee
Anthony J. Sciacca, 87, a retired Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. repairman and installer, died Sept. 18 at his home in Bowie from coronary heart disease.
Mr. Sciacca worked for C&P after World War II until his retirement in 1976. During the war, he served in the Army as a telephone operator, anti-aircraft gunner and military police officer in Italy.
Anthony Joseph Sciacca was born in Washington and graduated from McKinley Technical High School in 1939.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary Cuozzo Sciacca of Bowie; three children, Joseph Sciacca of Alexandria and Maria Magruder and Karen Stratchko, both of Bowie; three sisters; one brother; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Eric B. TynerBuilding Contractor
Eric B. Tyner, 32, a native Washingtonian and 1993 graduate of St. Andrews Episcopal High School in Potomac, died Sept. 28 near Oakridge, Ore., from injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash.
A spokesman for the Oakridge Police Department said Mr. Tyner died at the scene of the incident after a high-speed chase involving the police. Police said they were pursuing him for an alleged traffic violation.
Mr. Tyner crashed into a guardrail and was ejected onto the road, where he was struck by a police car. According to the Lane County medical examiner's office, the case is under investigation.
Eric Bracken Tyner was a self-employed general contractor. He had moved to Oregon in 1997 and was a resident of Bend.
Survivors include his companion of 10 years, Julie Wharfield of Bend; his father, John Tyner of Rockville; his mother and stepfather, Linda and John F. Miller III of Potomac; two grandmothers, Chloe Tyner and Cecilia Anchor, both of Rockville; and a sister, Heather Frazier of Bethesda.

Marcia P. SwardEducator, Mathematician
Marcia P. Sward, 69, deputy executive director of environmental education at the Audubon Naturalist Society in Chevy Chase, died Sept. 21 at the Washington Home hospice. She had kidney cancer.
Dr. Sward had worked at the Audubon Naturalist Society since 2004. Previously, she was the senior director for education and environment at the National Environmental Education Foundation.
In 1985, she helped create the Mathematical Sciences Education Board, which is part of the National Research Council's Center for Education. She served as executive director until 1989.
She was the executive director of the Mathematical Association of America from 1990 to 1999.
Marcia Ruth Peterson was born in Maywood, Ill. She earned her bachelor's degree in mathematics from Vassar College in 1961. She received a master's degree in 1963 and doctorate in mathematics in 1967, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
She moved to the Washington region in 1968 to work as a mathematics professor at Trinity College in the District. She served as department chairwoman from 1979 to 1980.
Her marriages to Gilbert Sward and Lynn Doherty ended in divorce.
Survivors include two children from her first marriage, Douglas Sward of Columbia and David Sward of Kensington; and two brothers.
