A bicycle and a truck collided in Frederick the other day, apparently causing no serious injuries but nevertheless bringing misfortune to those involved.
The bicyclist was charged in an earlier robbery attempt, police said. The operator of the truck was charged with driving with a suspended license, they said.
Frederick police gave this account: About 9:45 p.m. Thursday, police were called to the 1000 block of West Patrick Street for a report of a robbery.
The victim told police that he had been assaulted and stabbed during an attempted robbery. The victim, whose name and age were not given, was taken to a hospital.
A few minutes later, officers were sent to Willowdale Drive near West Patrick Street, where the bicycle and the truck had collided. The intersection is about a half-mile west of where the robbery attempt was reported.
The bicyclist, who matched the description of the robber, was taken to a hospital, then arrested and taken for processing, police said.
Police identified him as Manuel Martinez, 22, of East Sixth Street in Frederick.
In addition to robbery, police said, he was charged with first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
Police said truck driver Eric Daly of Savage Road in Frederick was charged with "suspended driving." A news release gave the date of the incident as the eve of his 24th birthday. He could not be reached for comment.
