A newborn girl who was found abandoned yesterday in the Takoma Park area died after being taken to a hospital, Prince George's County police said.
The girl, who appeared to be only hours old, was found about noon in a black plastic trash bag in the 6300 block of New Hampshire Avenue, said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a county police spokesman.
The newborn was apparently found amid trees or brush in a residential and commercial area just east of the boundary between the county and the District.
He said the girl was found by workers. They were not identified, and it was not immediately clear what led them to her. Police were searching for the mother.
