Thursday, October 16, 2008; 2:07 PM

An unidentified male fell on the track at the Friendship Heights Metro station at 11:49 a.m. today, causing major delays on Red Line in both directions, officials said.

Red Line delays were cleared by 1:30 p.m. The unidentified man was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, a Metro spokeswoman said.

Earlier today trains were sharing a single track between the Van Ness and Friendship Heights stations because of a switch malfunction. Metro now reports that there are no major delays in the system.
