Redmond O'Neal Out of Rehab

Redmond O'Neal, son of actors Ryan O'Neal and Farrah Fawcett, is "doing a lot better" after completing a court-ordered two-week detox program, and plans to enroll in further drug treatment, he told a Los Angeles judge Thursday.

Judge Scott Millington told O'Neal he was on the right path and advised him to "stay clean," People magazine reports. O'Neal, 23, and his 67-year-old father were arrested Sept. 17 after deputies searched their Malibu home (part of Redmond O'Neal's probation) and allegedly discovered methamphetamines on Redmond and in Ryan's bedroom.

Redmond has a history of substance abuse, first landing in rehab in 2004 for heroin use. This past June he pleaded guilty to drug possession and one misdemeanor DUI charge.

Ryan O'Neal's lawyer told People that his client does not use drugs, and that the meth found in the bedroom belonged to Redmond: "Ryan had confiscated them from Redmond. . . . He was trying to keep the drugs away from his son."

Father and son are scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 13 on felony drug possession charges.

Momsen's on the Mend

Local teen-turned-"Gossip Girl" star Taylor Momsen, treated at a Los Angeles hospital this week for a "severe, potentially life-threatening throat infection," is recuperating at home and will be back on the teen soap's set within days, her doctor says.

The 15-year-old Potomac native (last fall, she showed up at Winston Churchill High's homecoming dance) checked into an unnamed hospital Sunday, where she was treated for an unspecified condition. She left the hospital on Wednesday.

In a statement, Momsen's doctor said that "after aggressive antibiotics and medications, she is expected to make a full recovery in the next three to five days." As for CW, the network that carries "Gossip Girl," a rep said Momsen was expected to return to work yesterday.

Cosmic Miscommunication?

Trekkies: Pick a side! George Takei or William Shatner, that is.

The former "Star Trek" co-stars traded verbal barbs this week, starting with Shatner's somewhat baffling decision to post a video lament on YouTube.com. His gripe? Not being invited to Takei's recent wedding to longtime partner Brad Altman.

"The whole thing makes me feel badly," Shatner, 77, said in the video. "Poor man, there's such a sickness there. It's so patently obvious that there is a psychosis there. . . . He's continued to speak badly about me for all these years."

Not so, Takei told "Entertainment Tonight": "It is absolutely baffling to us because, in fact, we did invite Bill and we didn't hear from him." The 71-year-old Takei added that Shatner has "never responded to an invitation. . . . Every time there was something happy to celebrate" among the "Star Trek" cast, "he never showed up."
